Books hold the power to inspire, educate and transform lives.
Books are the best and true friends of mankind that motivates us in the times of adversity. They evoke emotions as well as contributes to intelligence and are important for children to study.
While a lot of children don’t have the privilege of owning books they desire to read, there are those who struggle with what to do with old books after reading, rarely we will refer to it again. Gradually, they are stowed away in some corner of the home or they pile up in cupboards, desks, shelves and gather dust. In due course, the neighbourhood ‘raddiwala’ (Scrap dealer) is called and he pays next to nothing to take the books away.
Isn’t there a better way to spread the reading habit and motivate people to read? Of course, there is and that is to donate old books. The book that you donated could be read over a period of time by a few hundred people who have the desire to read but lack resources to buy books.
You can spread your love for books by giving away used reading books like textbooks, novels, Stories, Comics, Magazines etc.
The initiative is also accompanied by collecting used notebooks which contains unused sheets.
What we do?
According to the research, each ton of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy, and 7000 gallons of water. This represents a 64% energy savings, a 58% water savings, and 60 pounds less air pollution!
In Karnataka alone, over 200 Crore unused sheets of paper reaches landfills every year.
We aim to address this issue through our book donation initiative by collecting used notebooks from students and adults, segregating used and unused sheets while used sheets will be sent to recycling centre, unused sheets will be used to bind new notebooks and distributed among those in need via book stalls at govt. schools etc. hence promoting sustainability.
Also, the old books worth reading that we collect during the initiative will be used to set up the community library accessible to the children from the underserved communities.
Be a part of this incredible contribution of learning, growth, and inspiration for kids and make a positive impact on the environment and help those in need.
